Salvadoran legislative election, 1932

Legislative and municipal elections were held in El Salvador between 3 and 5 January 1932. The government had promised free and fair elections and invited all parties, including the Communist Party of El Salvador, to compete. However, voters had to be registered in their municipalities alongside their party, thus giving the government a list of Communist Party members.〔Anderson, Thomas P (1971) ''Matanza: El Salvador's communist revolt of 1932'' Lincoln: University of Nebraska Press, p 88〕 The Communists won several predominantly indigenous municipalities in the west of the country. However, the Maximiliano Hernández Martínez government soon annulled the elections,〔Lungo Uclés, Mario (1996) ''El Salvador in the eighties: counterinsurgency and revolution'' Philadelphia: Temple University Press, p 114〕 and further ones planned for 10 to 12 January were cancelled.〔Nohlen, D (2005) ''Elections in the Americas: A data handbook, Volume I'', p 277 ISBN 978-0-19-928357-6〕 The conservative Progressive Fraternal party boycotted the elections in San Salvador on the grounds of electoral fraud.〔Anderson, p 91〕
